a girl has to do
There are generally a few things I really struggle with as a single woman. I don't know if it's true for all women, but I have difficulties with these chores.
•Taking out the garbage
•Mowing my lawn
•Fixing or maintaining my vehicle
•Checking out those "noises" I hear late at night after lights out
Generally. I feel like taking out the garbage is a mans job. I never had this as a chore growing up. My dad or brother always did it. I can't even recall a time in my childhood of ever even being asked! Though my parents were very definitive of male and female roles in our home. So this is possibly why I never was given this as a task.
I like mowing the lawn. But it never looks as good as when a guy does it? I figured it was something akin to vacuuming, something I love doing and am very good at, but it's not. And you can be terrible at it. Plus I can never seem to start the mower without a ton of sweating and swear words.
Going back to definitive gender roles in a household. I did not have ANY idea on how to pump gas into a car when I got married at 18. I called my BFF DeeAnna and had her walk me through it. So that might show you that I have NO clue how to fix a car, much less remember maintenance. Mechanics would ask me what make and model of car do you have? I replied, "it's green?" :)
Those scary noises!! I don't know that I will ever get over doing this for myself. Haha. But I am hoping someone will buy me a cricket bat for a gift. (think zombies and Shaun of the Dead) In all this is a wonderful feeling of accomplishment. I can learn to get by on my own. Just takes some practice.
:)
